Carrotwood (Cupaniopsis anacardioides) is a medium-sized evergreen tree native to eastern Australia, valued in California landscapes for its tidy, rounded canopy and tolerance of coastal conditions, drought, and poor soils. Its glossy, pinnate leaves cast a dense shade, while the small yellow flowers give way to ornamental orange-yellow capsules that split open to reveal bright red seeds.
